Progress Update – March 2025

Construction is underway

There’s exciting progress to share at the Upper Waitematā Marine Centre site in Catalina Bay!

🛠️ Construction Update
If you’ve walked past Boundary Road lately, you’ll notice the Marine Centre is really taking shape. The timber and steel columns, beams, and floor structures are now in place, along with some of the wall framing. It’s great to see the structure rising — a big step forward in creating this amazing new community facility.

🚧 A Reminder About Site Safety
Please remember that this is an active construction site. Despite earlier notices, people are still entering the site, which is not safe. For your safety, and that of the construction crew, please do not enter the site at any time.

🚣‍♂️ Spotlight on Westlake Rowing

Westlake Boys Rowing Club competing for medals at Lake Karāpiro

The Westlake Boys rowing teams, who train regularly on the inner Upper Waitematā Harbour, are in strong form ahead of the Marine Centre’s opening. Earlier this month, they competed at the North Island Secondary Schools Regatta and brought home an impressive medal haul:
🏅 4 Golds
🥈 1 Silver
🥉 3 Bronze

Golds were earned in the U18 Pair, U18 Coxed Four, and U18 Coxed Eight — all premier events. The team now heads to Lake Karāpiro for the prestigious MAADI Cup, with more than 160 schools and 2,250 student-athletes taking part.
