Good news everyone!!

We are excited to announce a major achievement at Hobsonville Point with the recent completion of the Wharf, a crucial element of the Upper Waitematā Marine Centre (UWMC) project. This milestone not only signifies progress in our waterfront transformation but also brings us closer to realizing our vision for a vibrant community hub.

New Wharf, New Opportunities

Finished on May 13, 2024, the new Wharf is thoughtfully designed to facilitate the launch and retrieval of Waka Ama, rowing boats, and sailing dinghies, catering to the diverse marine activities cherished by our community. While the Wharf is now under the jurisdiction of Auckland Council, following a transfer of ownership from Kāinga Ora, it remains a pivotal part of the area’s marine infrastructure.

The completion of the Wharf precedes critical upgrades along Launch Road, set to be completed by August this year. These enhancements are essential for beginning the main construction phase of the UWMC, projected to be completed by late 2025. Although it is currently unclear if the Wharf will be accessible to the public before the Launch Road works are completed, the future for this facility looks bright with promises of extensive community engagement and marine activities.

A Community Celebration

In true spirit of community and tradition, Auckland Council is planning a dawn ceremony to bless and officially open the Wharf. The date for this significant event is still being finalized, and we encourage all residents to stay tuned for the announcement. This ceremony will not only mark the Wharf’s opening but also celebrate the collaborative efforts that have made this achievement possible.

As we move forward, the UWMC will continue to embody the spirit of Hobsonville Point, weaving together the threads of community, tradition, and a love for marine recreation. We look forward to sharing more updates and inviting you to join us in celebrating each new development at this spectacular waterfront location.
